Equatorial Plasma Bubbles and Medium-Scale Traveling Ionospheric Disturbance Interaction Observed by OI 630 nm airglow imaging at Bom Jesus de Lapa, Brazil

چکیده
OI 630.0 nm airglow observations, from a new observatory at Bom Jesus de Lapa, were used to study the interaction between EPBs (Equatorial Plasma Bubbles) and MSTID (Medium-Scale Traveling Ionospheric Disturbance) over Northeast region in Brazil. On night of September 16 17, 2020, an EPB was observed propagating eastward, apparent fossil stage, until it interacted with dark band electrified (eMSTID). After interaction, four merged, followed by abrupt southward development bifurcations. Analysis data suggests that eastward polarization electric field, induced eMSTID, forced into upward drift, growing latitudinally along magnetic field lines then bifurcating.

The climatology of ionospheric plasma bubbles and irregularities over Brazil
In this paper, we examine ionospheric plasma depletions (or bubbles) and irregularities observed by photometers and a ground-based receiver of the global positioning system (GPS) both located in Brazil, South America. A simultaneous observation reveals that when the ionospheric plasma becomes depleted, the GPS total electron content decreases and the associated phase fluctuations grow. Statisti...
متن کاملEquatorial F-region plasma depletion drifts: latitudinal and seasonal variations
The equatorial ionospheric irregularities have been observed in the past few years by different techniques (e.g. ground-based radar, digisonde, GPS, optical instruments, in situ satellite and rocket instrumentation), and its time evolution and propagation characteristics can be used to study important aspects of ionospheric dynamics and thermosphere-ionosphere coupling. At present, one of the m...
متن کاملIonospheric plasma density variations observed at Mars by MAVEN/LPW
We report on initial observations made by the Langmuir Probe and Waves relaxation sounding experiment on board the NASA Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) mission. These measurements yield the ionospheric thermal plasma density, and we use these data here for an initial survey of its variability. Studying orbit-to-orbit variations, we show that the relative variability of the ionosp...
متن کاملCOMPARISON OF A LOW-LATITUDE IONOSPHERIC MODEL WITH OBSERVATIONS OF 01 630 nm EMISSION AND IONOSPHERIC PARAMETERS
A comparative study is carried out between a semi-empirical low-latitude ionospheric model (SLIM). including calculated 01 630 nm airglow emission intensities predicted by the SLIM model, with ionospheric and r>I 630 nm airglow measurements carried out at Cachoeira Paulista (22.7”S, 45.O”W; geomag. 11.9”S), Brazil. A long series of regular measurements of ionospheric F-region peak electron dens...
متن کاملIdentification of active fossil bubbles based on coordinated VHF radar and airglow measurements
Plasma irregularity structures associated with an Equatorial Spread-F (ESF) event were recorded by the Indian VHF Radar on 26–27 April 2006 near midnight hours. The plasma structures were found to be isolated without having bottomside structure. They moved predominantly downward and the structures were found to be less turbulent than their post-sunset counterparts. However, the structures were ...
